Each day, more and more educators around the world are sensing the impact of our growing collective challenges on their work. The disruptions caused by COVID may now be in the rear view mirror, but extreme climate events, the erosion of democracies around the world and new geo-political conflicts, growing economic inequality, shifting attitudes across generations, and more are prompting once again some fundamental questions about the role of education in an increasingly complex world.
It’s a time for “fearless inquiry” that begs each of us to look at our professional and personal lives anew. Given the many disruptions and changes in the world, who are we now? And who must we become?
Clearly, sticking to the status quo and simply focusing on “improvement” is not a strategy for meeting this moment or for preparing our children for the futures they will live in. We need to face the realities of our time and imagine harder about how we in education help ameliorate them
