To lead in this moment, you need to clear your path and focus your work.
This 2-day workshop will not only challenge you to ask the “big” questions, but it will provide you with a framework to engage in those questions in meaningful, productive ways in your school communities, with parents, students, boards, and others.
This difficult moment
The Current Crisis
We are living through the most disruptive crisis of our lifetimes. No nation, no industry, no “norm” of life has been left untouched.
For schools, this moment is fraught. Educational leaders are immersed in what may be the most profound learning moment ever, driven by difficult questions that may have long-lasting consequences and require fast answers. In short, we are in survival mode.
But as difficult and anxiety inducing a world in lock down may be, we are in an historic moment that holds the potential to usher in transformational change across every type of school. It’s a moment that requires us to ask bigger questions about what learning, schooling, and education writ large become in a post-pandemic world.
The origin of the word crisis comes from Greek and implies a decisive point, or a turning point, at which change must come. In Chinese, the symbol for crisis is comprised of two characters: danger and opportunity. We are living through a crucial inflection point in human history – effective leaders will need to navigate the dangers as well as figure out how to unleash the opportunities latent in this crisis.
The opportunity
A Deep Dive Into the Future of Leading, Learning, and Being
Conversations about “transformative” change in education have been ongoing for decades with little real return. But now, when the challenges for schools and schooling moving forward are increasingly existential, the moment for real reform has arrived.
If you want to lead in this moment, the Big Questions Institute on “Scenario Planning for a Post-Pandemic World” will clear your path and focus your work. It will not only challenge you to ask the “big” questions, but it will provide you a framework to engage in those questions in meaningful, productive ways in your school communities, with parents, students, boards, and others.
Facilitated by experts in school change, culture, globalization and technology, the Institute offers a space free of evaluation, where curiosity and creativity, informed by research and experience, guide inquiry.
Provocations, deep dives, and best practices will explore four broad categories:
- preparing students for a decidedly different future of life and work
- situating our practice in the current contexts of culture, equity, and globalization
- strategies for dealing with the complex yet urgent pull toward institutional change.
- using questions as powerful tools for exploration of mission, vision, and culture.
We are thrilled to offer this powerful professional learning opportunity featuring two of the preeminent authorities on learning and thriving in global contexts. Join Homa Tavangar, award-winning author and adviser to diverse organizations and schools around the world on culture, diversity, innovation and globalization trends, and Will Richardson, a globally recognized leader in modern learning systems and practices and change leadership, as they take you on an exploration into the most important questions of our time in education.
